Yes. A limited number of graduate students are permitted to live on campus. The Office of Residential and Community Life is available to help with any questions regarding on and off-campus housing. They may be reached at 607-436-3182.

SUNY Oneonta programs do not require supplemental tests like the GRE.

Yes. Acceptance of transfer credit upon admission is at the discretion of the academic department. No more than one-half of the number of hours required to complete the graduate degree program can be transferred from another institution.

Students are permitted to pursue their degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Students registered for at least 12 semester hours of coursework in a Fall or Spring semester (or 9 semester hours in the case of graduate assistants) are considered full-time. Any less than this is considered part-time status at the university.

Students who wish to take courses and do not wish to apply to apply to a degree program may apply for admission as a non-degree graduate student. Students are encouraged to consult with faculty within that program prior to completing an application. If you decide to apply to a graduate program at a later date, your non-degree courses may be subsequently applied to a degree program with approval from the faculty.

Yes. SUNY policy prohibits SUNY Oneonta’s application for admission from inquiring into an applicant’s prior criminal history. After acceptance, SUNY Oneonta shall inquire if the student has been previously convicted of a felony if the individual seeks campus housing or participates in clinical or field experiences. The information disclosed under SUNY policy regarding such felony convictions shall be reviewed by a campus committee consistent with the legal standards articulated in New York State Corrections Law.

Students who have been previously convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements. Students concerned with such matters are advised to contact the Dean of their intended academic program to discuss their options.
