On Monday, Nov. 16, SUNY Oneonta’s COVID Response Team shared its Draft Re-opening Plan: Spring 2021 and two upcoming virtual town halls to discuss the plan. The COVID Response Team also shared a Retrospective on Fall 2020. One change in the college’s COVID-19 response was implemented Nov. 16. Acting President Dennis Craig announced the appointment of Dr. Franklin Chambers to the newly created position of vice president for external affairs.
In response to country-wide protests this summer regarding inequality, injustice and police brutality, SUNY Oneonta has created “The UPD and the Oneonta College Community Task Force” to examine University Police practices and review police-community relations on campus.
State University of New York Chancellor Jim Malatras today announced that Dennis Craig will serve as the new Acting President for SUNY Oneonta. Chancellor Malatras made the announcement today from the SUNY Oneonta campus, joined by Acting President Craig, the SUNY Oneonta College Council, as well as student, faculty and local government leaders. Acting President Craig recently led SUNY Purchase College’s successful fall reopening and handled the campus’s response to the first wave of the pandemic last spring as interim president. The SUNY Board of Trustees approved the appointment today and it is effective immediately.
Dr. Bernadette Tiapo has been named chief diversity officer at SUNY Oneonta. Her appointment will begin Sept. 1. Dr. Tiapo comes to the college from SUNY Potsdam, where she has been associate vice president and chief diversity officer since 2016.
Seventeen SUNY Oneonta science students are getting hands-on lab experience during summer research projects on topics ranging from hydrofracking to beetle mating habits.
