About the Major

Best College in Business

SUNY Oneonta’s Business Administration major provides a solid foundation for successful careers in business enterprises and other organizations. Building upon a strong liberal arts, sciences and economics base, the major emphasizes the management of organizations, supported by knowledge of the general business disciplines of accounting, marketing, law, finance and information systems.

Business Administration majors develop additional depth in the business disciplines through required courses, including organizational behavior, operations management, corporate social responsibility, information systems, and a capstone course in strategic management.

You'll have the option to advance your knowledge of the business domain beyond the core curriculum by pursuing concentrations in marketing, finance, green supply chain management and non-CPA accounting.

We do not use teaching assistants as instructors in our courses; all classes are taught by full-time faculty whose focus is on their functional area of training.

Outside the Classroom

You'll also have opportunities to develop and demonstrate business-related skills through experiential earning activities outside the classroom, including competitions, research projects, internships, professionally relevant extracurricular activities and study abroad programs.

Requirements for Declaring the Major

The Business Administration major is open to all new and current students who have a 2.0 grade-point average and grades of "C" or better in courses required for the major, and who follow the prescribed course sequences. An SAT score (math and verbal) of 1100 or higher is recommended.

Martin Perina
SUNY Oneonta and the business major absolutely helped to get me where I am now. Not just the classes, the classes, of course, are important, but also the networking. You meet a lot of people, and networking, I would say, is one of the most important things when people want to do business. If I hadn’t been here, I wouldn’t be expanding the company to New York at first, but this is such a great location and there’s so much opportunity here.

My dream job would be to be a CEO of a company. I can see myself making pitches, being in that corporate setting in a conference room and being a leader. It fits my personality.

Just like our students are passionate about their activities, I’ve realized alumni are passionate about coming back and helping either through scholarship funds or just coming to give a presentation or have lunch with students. I have attended breakfasts and lunches and things like that. I'll remember those experiences forever. For someone like me – I come from a family who didn't go to college so I'm first-generation – having those people talk about their experiences and all that networking that is available to me is beyond anything I could ever imagine, honestly. So I'm very grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had on this campus.
