Counseling services and COVID-19

In preparing to respond to COVID-19, the Counseling Center will no longer see students in person but instead will provide telecounseling appointments only. This is to prevent healthy students from entering the Counseling, Health and Wellness Center and being exposed to any potential sickness. The Counseling Center will email students to confirm scheduled appointments and provide further information about telecounseling. To make a telecounseling appointment, call the Center at 607-436-3368. If you need a same-day appointment, please specify that.

If you are located in Otsego County and need to speak with a licensed counselor immediately, please call the 24-hour Otsego County Mobile Crisis Assessment Team at 1-844-732-6228. If you are located outside of Otsego County and are having a mental health emergency, the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-8255) will connect you to your local mental health crisis unit.

The Counseling Center offers services both in-person (masks required) and virtually (via Teams) to accommodate students’ needs. We encourage students to engage in tele-counseling when possible for your own safety as we are located in the Health Center which serves sick students. Also, if you have any cold symptoms, we ask that you stay home and request a tele-counseling appointment instead. For students who live on campus but have trouble finding a private place to do on-line counseling, the Counseling Center can arrange for you to reserve a room in Morris Hall for private counseling meetings with the Counseling Center or an off-campus provider. The Counseling Center continues to provide short-term individual counseling, same-day and crisis appointments, group counseling, and referrals for open-ended counseling.

To set up an appointment, please call 607-436-3368.

If you are located in Otsego County and need to speak with a licensed counselor immediately, please call the 24-hour Otsego County Mobile Crisis Assessment Team at 1-844-732-6228. If you are located outside of Otsego County and are having a mental health emergency, call 988 to be connected to your local mental health crisis unit.

Feature of the Month

Depression is a serious mental health problem that is more than just being sad or having the "blues". Read more (click on the “Depression” tab) about the symptoms of depression and take a screening if you think you might be depressed. There are many ways to treat depression but the first step is to become aware of what is really going on. If you think you may be depressed, call us for an appointment to discuss your experience and the different treatments options available to you.

Welcome to the Counseling Center's Website! Here you will find information about our counseling services, our staff, and lots of other helpful information about what counseling is and how you can get help.
