About the Major

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, SUNY Oneonta’s theatre program blends classroom and experiential learning to provide an ideal foundation for a wide range of careers and further education.

The program begins with a focus on the basic skills and vocabulary needed to understand how all the aspects of theatre work together. As you progress, you'll specialize in one or more areas of interest by taking advantage of opportunities to act, direct, design and stage-manage in an environment modeled on professional practices. A minor in dance is also available.

Facilities

Facilities include the Goodrich Theatre, a 487-seat proscenium space, and the Hamblin Theatre, a flexible, black-box facility. Students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience during several productions each year, including two student-directed shows.

Special Talent Application

No audition is required for acceptance into the theatre program. However, if you'd like to have your talent considered during the admissions process, you may submit a special talent application as a supplement to your regular application.

Profiles

Kiara Pipino
Just like Hermia in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” SUNY Oneonta Assistant Professor of Acting, Directing and Movement Kiara Pipino is little, but she is fierce. And her students know that better than anyone.
Bel Mendoza
My ideal job is anything in the theater or media world. I definitely want to look into directing and editing. My biggest dream would probably be working on a TV or movie set, either working behind the scenes or onstage – I love both realms. I want to be in that environment.
Stacy Zuniga
One of my best experiences has been joining the college President's Cabinet. I was the first student to ever sit in on Cabinet meetings. We’re working on a lot of things. Being a part of that and helping create change is the best experience. Not only am I representing a large population of campus but I’m also learning so much about myself and what I can do in the future.
Austin Teitelbaum
When I looked up state schools that have TV stations, Oneonta was the first one that came up. I saw the opportunity in the school, how many clubs there are and how people seem to be a family. I always heard great things about SUNY Oneonta, I walked in here as a transfer junior and am coming out of here as president of the TV station is a huge, huge thing. I love this school so much because of that.
